Straight Jam Thursday: Classixx – Borderline + Lemâitre – Cut to Black

by Reid Horton on March 14, 2013

It’s Thursday, the weekend is approaching, and the sun is shining in California…

…sounds like a perfect time for STRAIGHT JAM THURSDAY!

Straight Jam Thursdays on

First up, (and back for the second week in a row!) we have the always-epic Classixx, and the b-side to their amazing new single Holding On, with “Borderline“, featuring Kisses’ Jesse Kivel! Falling somewhere between 80’s shoegazer electronic and Killers-esque pop, this gem is perfect for late night drives with the windows rolled down. Featuring the vocal skills of Jesse Kivel, this mellow, building track makes you feel at home, and all alone at the same time. Moving, sentimental, and uplifting, Borderline combines the aural aesthetic of Classixx, while embracing a beautiful pop element, creating this fantastic movement of a song. Night drive approved.

And to stick with this mellow groove we have going, the latest from Lemâitre is pure pop bliss, with the piano-driven “Cut to Black“! Bouncing keys lead you into a smooth wonderland of soulful vocals and expertly crafted basslines, where the song really starts moving. Never breaking stride, yet hardly slowing down, this song is made for that moment when the warm sun comes out from behind the clouds on a crisp morning. If you need a little glide-in-your-stride, try this one on for size. Warning: Could induce head-nodding and humming at a moments notice.
