Gardens

...The Brave New Garden comes through again!

Baby Red Watermelons

Its Called "Uber-Fresh" in Germany.

This time, with the first REAL watermelon I have ever grown.   And,  it was delicious too.   Nothing quite like snipping off a ripe watermelon,  and cutting it up within minutes.   Good times,  good times.

Farmer Pig and "The Haul".

And,  for video friday,  only one video,  but it is the brand new song from Moullinex, "Sunflare"!

And now...for the "GIF's From A Friend" Section...

... my friend Doug made a really cool little image for this song too.   Clappnasty and I partying in Strasbourg, circa 2007.

You can check the original out right here.   Thanks Doug!

Until next week,
Reid.

A Brave New Garden, Week 17

by Reid Horton on August 23, 2011

Alright, I know it's been over a week since the last post on my garden, but we are going to call this Week 17 anyway.

Basically, the watermelons and tomatoes are taking over, still harvesting cherry tomatoes like they are going out of style*. Next up, is too build a "holder" of sorts, for the ever-expanding raspberry plant, which is now trying to reach across the length of the garden....which, isn't a bad thing at all. And now, photo time!

A Brave New Garden - 4 Months of Goodness

Hopefully, I can continue this gardening "foray" into a raised bed garden, where I'd like to grow some sweet potatoes, garlic, and onions. But that is another week, and maybe even another garden.

Until then,

-Reid

*Don't worry, they aren't going out of style. Sorry for any confusion.

A Brave New Garden, Week 16

by Reid Horton on August 1, 2011

So, "technically", last week was officially week 16 of this Brave New Garden, and I was going to post on Friday, but didn't have a chance. So, in lieu of all my "fancy-writin' words" that usually fill my posts, I'll let the pictures do the talking this time. And so, enjoy!

A Brave New Garden, Week 15

by Reid Horton on July 22, 2011

Ah, Friday. A good day indeed. End of the week, start of the weekend...oh, and its HARVEST TIME!

Sorry for (internet) yelling, but I finally had a chance to cut off some of these Japanese Eggplants, which are longer and skinnier than their non-Japanese counterparts. And in other "fun fact news", the eggplant is "botanically" a berry, due to the seeds inside. So, don't tell me I never taught you anything...

Anywho, on to the pictures!

Tomato Frenzy

I'm Calling It..."The Tomato Frenzy"...

Cherry Tomatoes

I Asked Them When They Wanted to Stop Producing...They Said Never.

BTW, if you want some tomatoes, just ask. I have a lot.

A Brave New Garden, Week 13

by Reid Horton July 8, 2011

And well, we are fully into the 4th month of my gardening sojourn, and well, harvest is just around the corner! As you will see below, we had to make some adjustments to the ever-growing tomato scene, as they were just about to take over the rest of the plants in the garden. So, we [...]

We Have A Champion!

by Reid Horton June 2, 2011

Well, Champion Tomato that is… The first real sign of life from Andrew’s Burgeoning Garden is the Champion Tomato, who is coming along quite nicely, thanks in part to the new wire cage we put in place last weekend. Along with the peppers and the chile’s, Andrew and I decided that we should be bottling [...]

Expanding Gardens and Birthday Parties

by Reid Horton May 23, 2011

As you may, or may not know, I have expanded my interest in gardening to other gardens besides my own. This past weekend, Andrew and I expanded on his blossoming garden. (you can see the first steps here) We added some Thai Basil, Sweet Mint, Habenero Peppers, Ancho/Poblano Peppers (with the belle’s, we are going [...]

One Afternoon + Two Shovels = A New Garden

by Reid Horton May 11, 2011

So, due to the “success” (i.e. the non-death of) my first gardening adventure, A Brave New Garden, I have had a few inquiries by some friends to help them plant their own gardens. So, 2 weeks ago, we started on Mikey’s garden (pictures to come next week) which is a much larger project, but this [...]
