Remix Wednesdays Reid Wild World

Remix Wednesdays

This week, a smooth, almost haunting remix from Tensnake, a.k.a. Marco Niemerski. This Hamburg-based producer has been quickly gaining steam after 2010's huge hit, Coma Cat, with stellar remixes of Aloe Blacc, Lauer, and Little Dragon to name a few. In "Hurting", we find the beat shifting between an almost tepid, yet punchy synth, which becomes entwined with the familiar sound of Friendly Fires, and then doused in a smooth, calming dance floor sidestep. It's a head-nodder, and it's one of those you'll probably listen to more than once. But, don't just take my word for it. Click that play button, dude.

Without further adieu, I present...

Friendly Fires - Hurting (Tensnake remix)

Hello! I'm Reid, and this is my Wild World!

If you missed the first installment of Remix Wednesdays, please follow the link to check it out, ASAP!

So, it's not Wednesday, but we do have a super sweet remix for you, courtesy of Edwin Van Cleef!

the penelopes- sally in the galaxy (edwin van cleef remix)

If you are not familiar with EVC, then, well, get with the program. With epic remixes for the likes of Chilly Gonzales, Grum, Mighty Mouse, The Futureheads, and Housse De Racket, Edwin is quickly gaining speed in not only the charts, but in the HEARTS.
Like I was saying...

He is making some serious jams at this point in time (namely, my favorite, Never Be Alone at Night) and this is no exception. With a a great slow building synth that blends into a a vocal harmony that slides right into some hand claps...and then, well, it's on. At this point, you are more than ready to hit the dance floor, and "cut it up", if you will. It has a very "deep house" feel to it, and I think that you'll probably hear this track a few more times in the coming months. To be released on March 19th, here is the superb remixes from Edwin Van Cleef, of The Penelopes "Sally In The Galaxy". Enjoy.

Until next time,
Reid.

Why hello!

Looks like we have a new section on the blog today...

Remix Wednesdays Reid Wild World

Only At ReidsWildWorld.com

While technically similar to Straight Jam Thursdays, this feature will be strictly remixes only. So, if you have a remix, please send it over! Click here to get in touch.

So, let's start things off with a bang! We have 3 HUGE producers all taking their turn at the single from Donald Glover, A.K.A. Childish Gambino. The Faust version already has 10,000 plays (and is a FREE download) and numerous other blogs have posted a few, so I decided to post 3.

While the original is a sweet slice of indie-hip-hop, the remixes all take on their own mannerisms and nuances. The Justin Faust version is probably my favorite, being the most dance-floor ready track, and includes more vocals from the original track. With a robust bass line and swirling strings, this track will send people to the floor. The Treasure Fingers version comes in with a slow build, then brings in some classic TF funk and soul, with a little space-disco involved for good measure, and a fantastic drop that leads into the end of the track. The Oliver rendition has some very familiar elements from their previous tracks, and you'll be impressed with the direction they took this song.

Anyway, on to the remixes!

Review Tuesday: Digitalism – I Love You, Dude

by Reid Horton on February 14, 2012

Hey Yo!

It's Tuesday, and if you haven't guessed by now...this is the part I call...

Review Tuesdays!

This week, in the spirit of Valentine's Day, we will talk about the latest release from Digitalism!

The german duo's latest release throws the pedal to the floor and drives home a raucous 45 minutes, filled with hard fuzz bass and smooth melodies, colliding into a frenzy of electro-rock goodness.

Digitalism - I Love You Dude

Digitalism - I Love You Dude

You may have heard their singles on a variety of Kitsune releases, or seen them live at Coachella and other festivals, but for those who haven't, to me, Digitalism sound like...

...the best parts of Justice, Cut Copy, and Daft Punk all rolled up into a nice little burrito of good times.

On I Love You, Dude, we get a healthy mix of harmonious indie dance tracks, that find the group with a much stronger sound, one that is, dare I say, maturing? In any case, it's a positive step, and I feel like the newer songs from Digitalism really sound like their own, and I feel like it's only going to continue.

The single, "2 Hearts", is a dizzy dance floor anthem, with an uber-catchy chorus, and is just the type of song that Digitalism really nails. Same thing goes for "Blitz" and "Circles", which really are the highlights of the album for me.

I found myself listening to the whole album without stopping, and taking it in as a whole piece of art, which can be hard to find with "dance" music sometimes. But, I Love You, Dude is a really good record, and I think it will not only win a lot of new fans, it will also catapult them into a higher eschelon of "electronic" acts. I see only good things.

Top Tracks: Circles, Blitz
Verdict: If you like fast paced, buzz-saw bass, and a beat you can move to, this is a record for you. Or, ya know, if you just like good music. Your call.

Until next time,

Reid.
